What is Shangri-La University Alliance - Master of International Business? The Shangri-La University Alliance Programme is a collaboration amongst University of Newcastle, Australia with four universities in China. The programme will be conducted in English.
Year 1: Students have the choice of studying at two universities in China - one semester (6 months) in each Chinese university. The programme will be conducted in English at all the four Chinese universities.
Year 2: Upon successful completion of the first year study in China, students will progress to study at University of Newcastle, Australia to complete the second year of study.
The Master of International Business programme aims to provide students with a broader international outlook, plus the opportunity to understand the culture and how business is conducted in China.
Upon successful completion of the first and second year of study, the student will be awarded the Master of International Business Degree from the first Chinese University the student had enrolled, plus another Master Degree (of the student's choice) from University of Newcastle, Australia.

Northern China • Jilin University of Finance and Economics (JUFE) in Changchun • Tianjin University of Commerce (TUC) in Tianjin
Southern China • East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST) in Shanghai • Yunnan University of Finance and Economics (YUFE) in Kuming

Which university will the student study in the first year in China?
Students can either choose two universities in Northern China: JUFE and TUC, or two universities in Southern China: ECUST and YUFE.
They will spend one semester (6 months) at each of the two universities.
For example, if they spend the first semester at JUFE, they will go to TUC in the second semester. Or, first semester at TUC, second semester at JUFE.
If they spend the first semester at ECUST, they will go to YUFE in the second semester. Or, first semester at YUFE, second semester at ECUST.

From which Chinese university will the student receive the Master of International Business degree?
Students will receive their Master of International Business degree from the first University where they are enrolled in. This will be the University where they spend the first semester. This will be referred to as the student’s Home University.

Can any of the four Chinese universities be the student’s Home University? Students will choose either one of the two universities in the North, or either one of the two universities in the South. Applicants will be asked to nominate their preferences for their Home University in the application form. Students will be allocated a Home University according to their preferences.

What if the student does not get their first choice for Home University? Places at each Home University are limited. If the student does not get their first choice of Home University, an offer from the next preferred Chinese university will be offered to the student.

What degree will the student get? Upon successful completion of the 2-year programme, students will receive two Master's degrees: - A Master of International Business from the first Chinese university the student had enrolled, plus - A Master Degree (with choice of specialization) from University of Newcastle, Australia.

What is the language of instruction at the universities in China? For Master of International Business, the programme will be conducted in English at all the four universities in China.

What are the admission requirements? Bachelor degree or Diploma with two years of work experience. Work experience can be in public sector, private enterprise, or self-employment.

What are the minimum requirements for English language proficiency? For the four Universities in China: International English Language Testing System (IELTS) overall band score 5.5, with no band below 5.0. IELTS score must be less than two years old.
For Universities of Newcastle, Australia: International English Language Testing System (IELTS) overall band score 6.5. Writing not below 6. IELTS score must be less than two years old.

For students without the required English proficiency, how many semesters of English Language course will the students need? Students admitted with IELTS 5.5 will need to study 2-semester English Language course, which is equivalent to 20 weeks of full-time study in ELICOS (English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students). This is to get the students to a level of English language proficiency that is required for them to study at University of Newcastle, Australia.
Students admitted with IELTS 6.0 will need to study 1-semester English Language course.
Students admitted with IELTS 6.5 will not require additional English Language course.

What is the Master Degree tuition fee? Year 1: RMB 65,000 for one year of tuition in China (not including tuition fee for addition English Language course if required). The tuition fee for English Language course is RMB 5,000 per semester.

How much will accommodation and living expenses cost? First year in China Campus accommodation prices vary widely among the four Chinese universities: from RMB 1,200 per semester to RMB 13,140 per semester depending on personal choice. Food from campus cafeteria in all the four universities is relatively inexpensive: On average for three meals a day: RMB 4,500 per semester. Travel and miscellaneous expenses: On average RMB 3,000 per semester (excluding textbooks). Average total cost for accommodation, food and miscellaneous living costs will be approximately RMB 30,000 per year.
Second year in Australia Average total cost for accommodation, food and miscellaneous living costs will be approximately A$18,000 per year.

How much do I have to pay when I want to accept the offer? Students need to pay the first year full tuition fee RMB 65,000, plus a deposit of A$6,500 for the second year in Australia. When the signed Letter of Acceptance and the tuition fees have been received, the Home University in China will issue a Notice of Admission and a Visa Clearance form for entry into China.

How does the student apply for a Student-visa for China? The student will make application at a Chinese Embassy in their country of origin, together with a Notice of Admission (Admission Letter) from the Home University and a Visa Clearance Form (JW202 form).

What is the cost of applying for a visa for China? Visa application cost will vary from country to country. Please check with your nearest Chinese Embassy.

When does the student need to apply for a student visa for their second year study in Australia? Students will need to start the student-visa application process for Australia during their second semester in China.

How does the student apply for a student visa for Australia? The student will need an unconditional Letter of Offer, plus eCOE (Electronic Confirmation of Enrolment) from University of Newcastle, Australia.
